This week, Pollard Banknote Limited, a leader in lottery products and solutions, released its financial report for the quarter ended March 31, 2023. Along with many other highlights, the company reported revenue of C$124.6 million in the first quarter of this year, 9.4% more than C$113.9 million year-over-year.
Based in Manitoba, Canada, Pollard Banknote is one of the industry’s best when it comes to delivering products and solutions to the lottery and charitable gaming sectors. The company is said to be Canada’s largest instant ticket supplier and the second largest in the world. Management claims the company is the continent’s largest provider of bingo paper and pull tabs.
In addition to sales of C$124.6 million, the lottery supplier reported combined sales of C$143.1 million, a 14.3% improvement from C$125.2 million in 2022. This included sales of its subsidiary Neopolad Interactive. Operating income was C$7.6 million, compared to C$9.3 million in the last quarter.
In the report, the company also reported that iLottery operations showed significant growth in the first quarter and posted almost new record consolidated revenue before taxes of C$11.5 million. Similar results were recorded in Q4 2022. Charity games and eGaming systems also had continued demand for products and recorded strong profits and revenues.
The company said immediate ticket margins were negatively impacted by the cumulative impact of the massive inflation cost bump that appeared throughout 2022 on all of its major ticket inputs, including paper, ink, packaging and cargo. It also reported a successful plan to adjust customer contract prices in the event of a re-bid to offset rising inflation costs.
The company also said iLotter sales reached an all-time high and grew thanks to the success of Virginia and Alberta contracts. It also reported several big hits in lottery-based games, including Powerball® and Mega Millions®, which contributed to increased traffic and revenue in U.S. sales. Total iLotter sales amounted to US$25.8 million.
