Nagasaki Prefecture said it is starting to develop manpower for its desired casino resort. On July 31, an online meeting of the Kyushu-Nagasaki International Tourism Human Resource Development Consortium Preparatory Committee will be held.

People in the fields of tourism, hospitality, and education are expected to participate in the event. According to the information sent by Nagasaki Prefecture to GGRAsia, there will be guest speakers with their respective working experiences in the international hospitality, tourism, and integrated resort (IR) industries.

The prefecture is part of the wider Kyushu region, where large casino resorts with tourist facilities are known in Japan, and we expect to benefit from economic growth linked to IR.

In the current market development phase, Japan will allow up to three casino resorts. Local governments must apply for the right to hold IRs to the national government after discovering private partners.

In June, the city of Nagasaki said three private-sector agencies, which passed the first round of evaluations in March, would undergo a second round of screening as possible partners for the prefecture’s bid for casino resorts.

Meanwhile, according to Nagasaki’s information, the Kyushu IR Council held its first business seminar on June 4. Speakers included people with business experience in the IR industry. According to Nagasaki Prefecture, the seminar provided detailed information on the economic benefits and business opportunities that IR could bring to the Kyushu region.

As an additional task, the Kyushu-Nagasaki IR Safety and Security Network Council Preparatory Committee held its first official meeting on June 30. It discussed anti-addiction measures related to casino gambling as well as general public safety.

Nagasaki also said the Kyushu Regional Anti-Addiction Network Council is preparing and will hold its first meeting over the summer.
