KIM SOO-HYON PARK HYE-JUNG, AND 19 OTHERS FROM NORTH KOREA TO COMPETE AT World WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Kim Soo-hyun (28, Busan City Sports Association) will look to win a second consecutive World Weightlifting Championships medal The Korean Weightlifting Federation on Monday released the names of 19 athletes (10 men and nine women) who will compete at the 2023 World Championships. The tournament will be held from Sept. 4-17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At last year’s world championships, South Korea won three bronze medals in total .Kim Soo-hyun in the women’s 76 kilograms, Kim Yong-ho in the men’s 55 kilograms and Kim Woo-jae in the men’s 81 kilograms finished third overall. Of the three, only Kim will compete at the World Championships in Riyadh, where he will try to win a second consecutive medal .Park Hye-jung (Goyang City Hall) and Son Young-hee (Busan Metropolitan Sports Association), the women’s heavyweight champions, will also be fighting for second place behind Li Wen-wen (China), who is the strongest in their weight class. Jin Yun-sung (Goyang City Hall) and Jang Yeon-hak (Asan City Hall) are also considered medal contenders in the men’s 102 kg class .The Riyadh World Championships is a ‘compulsory event’ for athletes to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
