Belo Horizonte felt the weight difference as they lost the first round of their friendly against the United States. The Belo Horizonte will now travel to St. Paul, Minnesota, to face the USA in the second leg of the tournament on May 5.
Colin Bell’s (England) women’s soccer team fell to a 0-4 defeat in the first leg of their friendly against the United States at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, USA, on Sunday (February 2). The loss brings the all-time record against the United States to 4-0-12.
Bell, who said before the game that she would “discover new talent,” fielded a young defense for the match, especially at the back. Aside from professional center back Hong Hye-ji (Incheon Hyundai Steel), the other two spots were occupied by unfamiliar striker Go Yoo-na (Hwacheon KSPO) and flanker Lee Eun-young 스포츠토토사이트 (Changnyeong WFC).
Cho So-hyun (Birmingham City), Ji So-yeon (Seattle Reign), and Lee Young-joo (Madrid CFF) lined up in the midfield, with Choo Hyo-joo (Incheon Hyundai Steel) and Kang Chae-rim (Suwon FC) on either wing back. Up front, Casey Eugene Fair (Angel City) and Choi Yoo-ri (Birmingham City) started up top. Kim Jung-mi (Incheon Hyundai Steel) was in goal.
Belho surprised the Americans early in the match with strong forward pressure. After that, Cho So-hyun and Ji So-yeon scored back-to-back shots to open the scoring, but from there, they were outnumbered. Goalkeeper Kim Jung-mi kept them in the game, but they conceded goals to Mallory Swanson (Chicago Red Stars) and Tierna Davidson (Sky Blue) in the 34th and 38th minutes, respectively.
Trailing 0-2 at halftime, Belo made a change at the start of the second half, removing Hong Hye-ji and introducing Kim Hye-ri (Incheon Hyundai Steel), but Belo conceded again in the third and 29th minutes to Davidson and Swanson, respectively.
