Chicago boat capsizes during heatwave, 1 dead, 6 injured.

A series of fatalities have occurred on Lake Michigan, a popular urban recreation area, amid a heat wave and storms in the Chicago area.

The Associated Press and local Chicago media reported that one person was killed and six others injured when a recreational boat capsized on Lake Michigan outside the Playpen, a water-based recreation facility near Chicago’s tourist attraction Navy Pier, at around 2:40 a.m. local time on Aug. 28.

“Strong winds gusting up to 50 kilometers per hour around Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago at the time of the incident, causing high waves,” according to the Coast Guard Department (CFD), which believes the boat collided with a breakwater and capsized.

“Six of the seven people on the boat were rescued and taken to the hospital, while one woman in her 20s was found dead,” CFD Deputy Chief Jason Latch said.

The Chicago Tribune reports that while the area around Lake Michigan in Chicago is a popular vacation spot, accidents are not uncommon: “A day before this incident, 먹튀검증토토사이트 a man drowned and another was seriously injured in a series of accidents.”
