Casino Montreal Employee Willing to Strike During F1 Grand Prix

Casino Montreal’s more than 1,000 employees voted in favor of a five-day strike order aimed at a busy Formula One Grand Prix weekend. 릴게임사이트 The union aims to accelerate negotiations by focusing on increasing pay for its members. Meanwhile, casino operator Lotto Quebec has expressed its commitment to normal operations.

̂ It should be noted that the Formula 1 Gillenube race in Notre Dame is a major attraction for tourists in Montreal during the summer. This year’s edition will be held from June 16 to June 18, 2023. Casinos are also located on the island and the weekend is expected to be quite busy for gaming facilities.

Over the weekend, the CSN-affiliated union, which represents casino workers, issued a statement confirming that its members voted 91% in favor of the five-day strike. It remains to be seen when the strike will begin, but Rotoquebec fears protests could arrive during the Montreal Grand Prix, when casinos on the island usually have a busy weekend.

Trade unions can leverage racing as a bargaining tactic to accelerate negotiations with users in operation from June 2022. The two parties cannot agree on wages because employees are looking for an increase in the cost of living plus C$1 an hour to protect purchasing power, attract and improve maintenance.

Immediately after the statement’s release, Crown Corporation, which operates casinos, also responded and said it would try to ensure that daily operations at the hotel remain as usual during pressure tactics. It also says it has already proposed two generous proposals to address the needs of its employees.

In addition, workers at Casino de Gatino and João Rinho voted for a similar five-day strike mandate, while employees at Charlevoix and Montremblanc casinos will vote in the coming days. According to the union, those affected by contract negotiations perform customer service, catering and security duties at casinos, and do not include dealers.

Last summer, Lotto Quebec saw dealers at Casino Montreal go on strike. Kruppier represents the Canadian Civil Service Union, and in May 2022, some members went to demonstrate their support for the negotiating committee, which failed to reach an agreement on a proposal suitable for employers and employees at the time.

Then, in August 2022, CUPE announced that a tentative agreement had been reached with Crown Corporation. Jean-Pierre Proulx, an adviser to the union, said both the union and the management bargaining committee were happy with the new agreement, and he was pretty confident that workers would also think it was reasonable when it was time to vote later.
