First phase of waterfront Manila reconstruction completed scheduled for May

The “tentative/scheduled” phase 1 completion date for the reconstruction of the waterfront Manila hotel and casino, formerly known as the Manila Pavilion, is May 2024, according to filings with the Philippine Stock Exchange by the Acesite Hotel Corporation on Wednesday.

The second phase will be completed in January 2025 and the third phase will be in May 2025.

The information was in response to a letter sent Monday by the Securities and Exchange Commission in the country.

In May of this year, Acesite’s parent company, Waterfront Philippines Inc, said in its 2022 annual report that it expects the first phase of the casino hotel reconstruction to be completed in November of this year. This was already a delay from the first quarter 2022 “soft relaunch” date mentioned in June 2021.

Waterfront Philippines Annual Report 2022 notes redevelopment work began at Manila casino-hotel building after big fire in 2018.

In its annual report, the Waterfront Philippines pointed out that the “relevant party” who signed a sublease contract with the Philippine Amusement Park (Pagcor), the country’s casino regulator, signed a “long-term lease” with a waterfront Philippine subsidiary called the Philippine Hotel to “operate the casino” at the Manila Pavilion.

As of Dec. 31, Acesite is 56 percent owned by Waterfront Philippines. The parents currently operate three hotels in the country, and some offer casino games.
