An award has been established to honor the work of the late ice hockey genius Cho Min-ho.
HL Anyang said, “The family of Jo Min-ho, who passed away in June 2022, and his team, HL Anyang, have established the ‘Jo Min-ho Assist Award’.
The award will be presented on June 6, immediately following the team’s Asia League ice hockey home game against the Tohoku Freeblades at Anyang Ice Arena,” the team announced on Wednesday.
The Cho Min-ho Assist Award will be presented to one middle and high school player each who has recorded the most assists in domestic competitions during the year.
The inaugural recipients are Shin Yoon-min of Gwangsung High School and Kim Se-hyuk of Gyeongheejo High School.
The HL Anyang explained, “The award was established to honor the memory of the late Mr. Shin, who excelled as a playmaker, dedicated himself to his team, and was particularly interested in the development of youth ice hockey, and to encourage up-and-coming players.”바카라사이트
Jo Min-ho, who played at Gyeonggi University and Korea University, joined HL Anyang in 2009 and led the club to six championships in 12 Asian League seasons, scoring 124 goals and 324 assists in 393 games.
His 324 regular-season assists were the most by a Korean player at the time.
His immersion and passion for the game, as well as his characteristic integrity, made him one of the best players of his generation.
His hard work paid off when he scored South Korea’s first ever Olympic goal against the Czech Republic in the first round of the ice hockey preliminary round at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
The HL’s Anyang team has retired his jersey number, 87, to honor his memory.
