According to the latest monthly statistics released by the Singapore Tourism Organization, the number of visitors to Singapore dropped 7.8 percent in August from the previous month. Mainland China recorded the largest number of visitors to the city for the second month in a row.
Singapore recorded 1.31 million visitors in August, compared with 1.42 million the previous month.
Singapore’s visitor arrivals in the first eight months of this year were 9.01 million, up 204.5% year-on-year, but still nearly 30% lower than the same period in 2019, when the city-state recorded 12.86 million visitor arrivals, according to the latest monthly tally.
In August, Singapore received 214,490 visitors from mainland China, down 7.3 percent from July.
Indonesia provided 167,850 Singapore visitors as the second-largest source market in August.
In the first eight months of this year, Singapore’s biggest source markets were Indonesia (1.52 million), China (870,000), Malaysia (713,880), India (711,900), and Australia (691,730), according to the latest data from the Tourism Organization.
In August, the average number of stays for visitors from China was 5.34 days. The average number of stays for all international visitors was 4.00.
Singapore is home to Resorts World Sentosa, run by Genting Singapore Ltd., and a casino resort called Marina Bay Sands, run by Las Vegas Sands Corp. The latter also controls Sands China Ltd., which is part of six operators in the Macau casino market.
