Casino sales at Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL), which operates foreigner-only casinos in South Korea, rose 16.7 percent on-month to about 29.55 billion won in June, according to data submitted to the Korea Exchange on Monday. The latest monthly tally rose 20.8 percent year-on-year.
During the month of June, table game sales rose 21.4 percent sequentially to about W26.53 billion, and were up 19.8 percent from a year ago. Machine game sales were nearly W3.02 billion, down 12.9 percent from the previous month, but up 31.3 percent from a year ago.
The company had no comment on the reasons for the two changes.
Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only, seven-luck-branded casinos, two in the capital city of Seoul, including Gangnam, and one in the southeastern port city of Busan. The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The casino operator’s Gangnam casino posted net casino sales of 61.23 billion won in the first quarter and 50.82 billion won in the second quarter, the biggest contributor to the company’s recent earnings, according to separate revenue figures released on its official website.
In the first six months of this year, Grand Korea Leisure’s casino sales totaled 208.03 billion won, up 119.6% year-on-year.
In the six months to June 30, table game sales rose 126.9% year-on-year to 189.77 billion won, while machine game sales rose 64.6% to 18.26 billion won.
In the first six months of this year, the company’s cumulative “drops” amounted to 1.59 trillion won, up 135.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, according to data submitted by the company. In June alone, the casino company’s “drops” amounted to 252.15 billion won, up 76.1 percent from a year earlier but down 12.3 percent from the previous month.
