Tottenham are expected to sign a new midfielder in the January winter transfer window.
Citing Football Insider and Italy’s Milan Live, Courtauld Offside reported on Friday (Jan. 5) that manager Ange Postecoglou is pleased with Spurs’ recent progress but believes further improvements are needed.
It is claimed that Postecoglou wants to play Dejan Kulicepski, 24, in a more central position, while also looking to add new midfield reinforcements.
The name of Dutch international Tijani Reinders (26, AC Milan) has been mentioned. Postecoglou wants to bring in the central midfielder to add to his midfield options, which already include Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Yves Bissouma.
Postecoglou also has Lucas Verbal and Archie Gray in his squad. However, neither of them are seen as starters by Postecoglou. He is looking for players who can cover a wider range.
Reinders, who joined Milan from AZ Alkmaar last summer, is a box-to-box midfielder who works diligently in both the attacking and defensive areas. His ball-keeping ability in tight spaces is praised, as is his dribbling and passing ability.
His ability to create chances for his fellow attackers with bold through balls is a plus, 토토사이트 but he’s not as proactive in defense.
Despite his 6-foot-2 height, he is also weak in aerial contests.
It seems unlikely that Spurs will succeed in signing Reinders. Liverpool are interested in Reinders and could offer him to Milan in a swap deal, especially for Federico Chiesa, 27.
Chiesa joined Liverpool this summer from Juventus. However, he struggled to get into the side at the start of the season as he struggled to get fit. Recently, he’s been coming on as a substitute.
This means that Liverpool could have an advantage over Tottenham if Milan eventually decide to sell Reinders. That’s because they’ll be able to offer a replacement to their opponents.
In total, Reinders has three goals and two assists in 12 games this season (one goal and two assists in nine league games). Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has utilized Reinders so much that it’s unlikely he’ll be sold during the season.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can reciprocate with Postecoglou’s desire for midfield reinforcements.
