South Korean figure hopeful Shin Jia (15-going to Sewha Girls’ High School) won her third consecutive silver medal at the Junior World Championships.
Shin scored 73.93 technical elements (TES) and 65.02 artistic elements (PCS) for a total of 138.95 points in the women’s single free skate at the 2024 International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Figure Junior World Championships at Taipei Arena in Taipei, Taiwan, on Monday (Jan. 1).
Combined with the 73.48 she earned in her short program, Shin finished second overall with a final score of 212.43 to take home the silver medal. Gold went to her younger rival Mao Shimada (JPN – 218.36 points). The bronze medal went to Lena UEZONO (JPN), who scored 194.70 points.
Shin Jia was the last to perform on the day, coming in after Shimada.
She began her performance to the tune of the freeskating program Not About Angels by Birdy and executed her first task, a double axel jump, perfectly.
From there, Shin continued to land triple loops, triple salchow jumps, and a triple flip-double toe loop-double loop combination jump. 스포츠토토 Although she was deducted 0.13 GOE points for a wobbly landing at the end, she was able to complete all of her tasks and put on a clean performance.
Shin Jia had one of her best performances of the tournament, hitting personal bests in both the short program and free skate. However, she was once again edged out by Shimada for second place, her third consecutive runner-up finish. She fell short of becoming the first South Korean to win the event in 18 years.
Meanwhile, twins Kim Yoo Sung and Kim Yoo Jae, who competed alongside Shin Jia, finished in 15th and 16th place with final scores of 170.80 and 167.84 points, respectively.
In the Ice Dance Rhythmic Dance on the same day, Kim Jee-ni/Inamu (General) earned 54.73 points and placed 15th. Kim and Inamu will compete in the free dance on Feb. 2 (KST).
