Ahn Ik-soo resigns as FC Seoul coach

FC Seoul head coach Ahn Ik-soo has voluntarily resigned.

FC Seoul drew 2-2 at home against Daegu FC in the 27th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Sept. 19. Seoul (10W9D8L) was without a win in five consecutive matches.

After the game, Ahn said, “Can I tell you the last thing I said, I’m going to read something I prepared, and I’m just going to call it ‘The Stool of Resignation,'” he said.

“Two years ago, when I was hired, I said in an interview why I accepted the offer to coach FC Seoul, ‘I always thought that FC Seoul was a club that should have a clear responsibility for Korean football, so I was in a decision-making situation. They were ranked 11th at the time. I once said, ‘If I can put my honor behind me and help FC Seoul a little bit, I’ll do it. My mindset hasn’t changed. I feel that FC Seoul needs to change in order to develop further.”

Ahn continued, “I have done my best since taking over to fulfill my promise to you and my heart’s resolve. I didn’t achieve what I set out to do, and I’m quitting. I think my role is over because my abilities are insufficient. I apologize to everyone who has supported me for not being able to fulfill my goals. However, I still believe that FC Seoul is a team that should lead Korean soccer and spread a healthy message to our society. I will support the team from afar. I would like to thank the owner for trusting us for the past two years, the front office and support staff for their hard work in supporting the team, the supporters for traveling all over the country in rain or shine, and all the people behind the scenes, including the people who maintain the turf at Guri Training Center. Finally, I would like to apologize to my players and thank them for their support.”

Meanwhile, a Seoul club official said, “I’ll have to go through the confirmation process. I don’t think it’s possible to say anything right now.” 먹튀검증
