Provided 10,000 ‘Chuncheon eCups’ for the first use of multi-use cups at the Chuncheon Marathon

After the event, the cups will be collected, washed and reused at the Chuncheon Community Self-Reliance Center

The city of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, will support multi-use cups instead of

disposable cups for a marathon that attracts a large number of people.

According to the city, 10,000 reusable cups will be provided for the 2023 Chuncheon Marathon on Sept. 29.

‘Use reusable cups for the environment’

This is the first time in the country that a marathon with more than 10,000 participants

will use reusable cups, the city said.

The “Chuncheon e-cup,” a multi-use cup produced through the cafe multi-use cup

support project, will be provided on the day of the marathon, and will be collected,

washed, and reused by the Chuncheon Community Self-Reliance Center after the marathon.

To ensure the safety of marathon participants and to minimize the loss of reusable

cups, reusable cups will only be available at water stations at the finish line of the full course (42.195km).

To facilitate the return of reusable cups, the city will set up 12 return boxes.

More than 70 people, including volunteers and part-time workers, will work to operate

the reusable cups and set up promotional booths.

Chuncheon hopes to reduce waste by replacing some of the hundreds of thousands of

disposable cups used in the tournament with reusable cups.

Previously, Chuncheon has been operating the ‘Cafe Reusable Cup Support Project’ since August.

The project aims to reduce waste by replacing disposable cups for packaged beverages

at coffee shops, which are exempt from the disposable product regulation, with multi-use cups.

From August to September, more than 3,000 multi-use cups were used at participating coffee shops.

We are also promoting the use of reusable cups at local events such as sake festivals. 19가이드03
