The biggest mistake in the history of the Premier League

The VAR officials who oversaw the match between Tottenham and Liverpool knew there was an error in the call.

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the seventh round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) at 1:30 a.m. ET today at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. The win leaves Tottenham in second place in the league with five wins and two draws (17 points), while Liverpool is fourth with five wins, one draw, and one loss (16 points).

A ridiculous call prevented Tottenham from laughing all the way to the bank after the win, and Liverpool walked away with nothing but bad feelings. The obviously blown call came in the 34th minute. Mohamed Salah slipped a pass to an incoming Luis Diaz, who beat Guglielmo Vicario with a powerful shot.

Diaz’s goal was reviewed by VAR and subsequently disallowed. The replay showed the referee immediately declaring Diaz offside before the VAR review was completed.

“This is the biggest mistake in PL history. Something needs to be done to prevent this level of mistake from happening again. How can they make both the right and wrong call at the same time?” and was outraged.

Surprisingly, the VAR clearly saw that Diaz was onside. As far as the onside call goes, they had made the right call. However, Darren England, who was in charge of the VAR review, was confused about which call was in question and which VAR review was being conducted.

Diaz’s situation required a VAR review to overturn the assistant referee’s incorrect call of offside. However, the England referee mistakenly believed that the assistant referee had not called offside.

There is no need to re-draw the offside line when VAR confirms the correct call. The England referee knew that Diaz was onside before he drew the offside line. That’s why the replay didn’t show him drawing the offside line himself.

The England referee mistakenly said “Confirmed” to the referee, believing that the on-field decision was correct. “The referee understood that the assistant referee’s decision to call offside was correct and played on.

Within seven seconds of the restart, the England referee and the VAR realized that a major miscommunication had occurred. However, neither 메이저토토사이트 the referee nor the match officials were able to call a halt to the game due to panic. Under the current rules, it’s impossible to overturn a decision once it’s already been reviewed by a VAR.

In the end, Liverpool were robbed of the goal. After the game, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) released an official statement saying, “We acknowledge that a significant error occurred in the first half between Tottenham and Liverpool,” it said.

“Diaz’s goal was ruled offside by the on-field officials. This was a clear error and the goal should have been awarded through VAR intervention, but it was not. PGMOL will conduct a full review of the circumstances in which the error occurred,” the statement read, but the damage done to Liverpool is irreparable.
