LG Innotek has secured over 3,500 patents for its automotive electronic equipment parts over the past five years, cementing its footing in the global electronic parts market, LG Group’s electronic parts development subsidiary said Wednesday.
Innovations in cameras, lighting and communication modules for electric and autonomous vehicles have bolstered LG Innotek’s patent portfolio.
Traditionally recognized for its expertise in smartphone camera modules, the company has significantly expanded its presence in the automotive sector.
IT said that after it started focusing its research and development capability on automotive electronic equipment, patents in this area now represent 40 percent of its total patents.
Among the company’s latest patents are five global standard patents for electric vehicle communication controllers (EVCCs), including four technologies 한국을 related to EV charging via communication channels and one on battery recharging control.
The company had already acquired three global standard patents for EVCCs last year.
LG Innotek said it is among only eight companies worldwide that hold global standard patents in EV recharging.
Global standard patents are given to technologies used to make products that are accredited by the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission.
Companies that retain global standard patents can also wield an upper hand in global markets in the related fields.
LG Innotek is now part of the country’s initiative to acquire a global standard patent with light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technologies.
Those from the company who had been selected by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards are now key members of the project, according to the company.
“We’ll extend our leadership in technology and patent for the global electronic equipment part market,” LG Innotek CTO Noh Seung-won said.
